Improbable Libraries is a new book by Alex Johnson that shows photos of the oddest and most inventive library designs in the world today. They include camel-mounted bookmobiles and bubble-like reading pods. I especially like this library in Muyinga, Burundi. BC Architects designed it to use local materials and construction techniques. It features an enormous hammock made of sisal rope woven by a local master of that craft. Children access it from a loft. They lie on cushions and read as cooling air flows in from the outside.
