Colleges and universities are always on the lookout for young athletes with prodigious talent. Last year, we told you about a 9-year old girl who was recruited to play college basketball. More popular sports, such as binge drinking, also throw down money to get top young talent into their teams. Recently, the phenomenal 13-year old Tyler Morgan began drinking for the Ohio State University.

That school is legendary for its drinking program. When the Buckeyes party hard, no one can stop them. Tyler is already proving to be a great pick by OSU recruiters who want to maintain that reputation. You can learn more in this video by the satirical news site The Onion .

Table for Two

Artist Shani Ha placed this unique interactive art installation at a street corner bistro in New York City. It's called Table for Two . Half of the two-person table is inside the restaurant. The other half is outside. If you sit down at one end, you can choose to interact with the person on the otherside or just look at your own reflection in the glass.

The project is a commentary on how we can be alone in the midst of so many people. Ha writes:

New York is a very crowded city yet so many people are alone. In a city where more than half of the population is single, everyone seems eager to meet someone even if we keep on ignoring people around us, in the real life. Dating/meeting apps and websites are exploding. Most of our interactions happen behind a screen via texts, e-mails, Skype, Tinder etc. Virtual communication is slowly taking the place of our human interactions, accentuating egocentricity over empathy.

Screens have invaded our everyday life becoming our main medium to communicate. In the same way, the glass that crosses through the table and separates the two seats becomes a screen that both connects and isolates, and through which people get to communicate spontaneously.

The installation questions our relationship to otherness, social-isolation and everyday co-presence situations in New York. By inviting the public to use the piece and sit at the table; the artist allows experimental forms of interaction and communication between viewers; passer-by and clients.

A Classic, Old Fashioned Barber Shop on Wheels

jeudi 26 février 2015

I love the old fashioned barbershops of my youth—beautiful slices of Americana I like to call Floyds. You can get a sense of the old way by visiting the Salon Le Barber. You’ll may have to go to the Netherlands to experience it, though. That’s where Orla Tiffney of Pop-Up City found it.

The Salon de Barber is a classically outfitted barbershop inside a small trailer. The features and trim are exactly what you’d hope for when searching for a Floyd’s-style shop. When Pop-Up City found it, the Salon Le Barber was at the Food Soul Festival in Amsterdam. Since it’s portable, maybe it will visit my town in America!

Dog and Tortoise Are Best Friends Forever

Dolly is a Pit Bull. Sheldon is a Sulcata Tortoise. Cynthia Jones and her husband Ray adopted both of them into their growing family , which includes 2 miniature donkeys, a miniature horse, and another dog.

Dolly and Sheldon are great friends. They love to play chase. Dolly sometimes offers her ball to Sheldon, hoping that he will play with it. But, so far, Sheldon has expressed no interest. Come on, Sheldon, just kick it around a bit.

Your Chance to Drink with Owls

Japan has been a leader in animal cafes, including one where you can get up close and personal with owls. London has decided to up the ante with an owl tavern, although it will be temporary.

Annie the Owl and friends will be taking over a Soho bar from March 19 to 25, 8:30 p.m. until 2:00 a.m. Customers can enjoy two hours and two cocktails nestled amongst the nocturnal birds. There's just one catch—you have to be very lucky to get a spot. Right now, the tickets are being sold for £20, but you have to enter a lottery to earn some face-time with the owls. Winning the raffle only gives you one ticket, so you'll have to fly solo if your friends don't win as well.

Right now, owl cafes are all the rage in Japan, but (perhaps predictably) London kicked it up a notch by adding booze to the equation. On top of feathery friends and drinks, the bar also offers music, comedy, and an "electric atmosphere." The drinks will be mixed by some of London's top mixologists, and the birds will all be accompanied by professional falconers, so you know you'll be in good hands.

The birds will be well-chaperoned, and only people are allowed alcohol. Proceeds from the owl bar will go to The Barn Owl Centre, an organization dedicated to protecting owls. Get all the particulars for the upcoming owl cafe at mental_floss.

"It's Always Sunny" Cast Take A Look At Tattoos Based On Their Show

The cast of characters who lurk around Paddy’s Pub are some seriously shady human beings, and not so long ago people with tattoos were seen as shady and untrustworthy by "polite" society.

So it only makes sense that fans of It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia would want to commemorate their favorite shady characters Charlie, Mac, Dennis, Dee and Frank with colorful tattoos!

The gang from Sunny recently paid Conan O'Brien's show a visit, where they took a look at some interesting fan tattoos inspired by the show before showing off their own regrettable ink stains tattoos. Tattoos based on TV shows never go out of style...until about five to ten years after the show is canceled!

This is the Bimmah Sinkhole, a natural swimming pool in Oman. As the name suggests, it’s formed by the erosion and collapse of a level of limestone in the Hawiyam Najm Park.
